Evans Osuji was born and raised in Maplewood, NJ to two immigrant Nigerian parents. He completed his undergraduate degree at James Madison University majoring in Health Science. During his career there, he assumed positions as the captain of the football team, team representative for the Student Advisory Athletic Committee (SAAC), and was a Cellular Biology Teaching Assistant, while juggling the academic load of a major in Health Sciences. He was able to see tangible change through mentorship in the lives of a rural and underserved population of predominantly black and Hispanic children, so he often volunteered with these communities. He has since become passionate about mentorship and aspires to be a role model in his community whom younger minority students may turn to for guidance. 

Upon graduating he later completed a fellowship at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and joined the executive board with the Network for African American Fellows (NAAF) to further push his mission of increasing the prevalence of African Americans in STEM. He is currently a second-year medical student at The Ohio State College of Medicine and hopes to leverage some of his unique life experiences in medicine to inspire the next generation of young black men in medicine.
